Intensive Bassoon Reed making Course

'From Blank to Reed'

3 x two hour classes at your convenience

This three class course has been designed for advanced players (16 years and over) and adult enthusiast interested in making, understanding, and adjusting their own bassoon reeds, constructed from commercially available gouged, shaped and profiled cane. 

The one on one lessons will give you the opportunity to practice each step under instruction, with each session focusing on one aspect of the reed making process.  

Topics covered include;

  • Density testing, cane preparation, basic reed shapes and profiles

  • Forming and forming preparations

  • Blank wiring and drying, sealing and wrapping reeds

  • Scaping, reed diognostic and troublshooting. 


All tools (if required) , cane and sundries will be provided for each class as well as an instructional booklet to take home.

Under 16's welcome with parental supervision.

You will learn the steps and skills needed as well as have the opportunity to practice each step with the guidance of Bassoon Factory owner Tanya. The total duration of the course (six hours) will be split into three two hour sessions. 

Each session will see demonstrations, hands on participation and presentations  providing the knowledge and confidence for participants to explore and develop their own reed styles in the future. 

Participants will be expected to attend all three classes with all cane, sundries and tools (if required) provided for duration of the course.

Registration and Payment required in full prior to the first session.

If cancelled prior to the completion of all three sessions each completed class will be charged out at $70 p/h with a refund of the difference being provided. 

Sessions are face to face and will be held at a convenient time and place for both parties. 

Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult (FOC). Due to the intensity of the content this course may not be suitable for students under 16.
